Placenta Limitations & Disclaimer

Limitations and Disclaimer: Encapsulator is not a licensed medical professional and is not able to diagnose, treat or prescribe for any health condition. Services and fees are for the preparation and encapsulation of your placenta, not for the sale of the capsules. No specific benefits or effects are promised. Any benefits will vary from person to person.  Some of the ascribed benefits of placenta consumption are supported by ongoing research; however these benefits have not been evaluated much or approved by the FDA.  It is your responsibility to determine whether using placenta preparations may be of benefit to you.

Sarah with Somatic Birthwork will provide a written explanation of the proper storing and handling of the finished placenta capsules and guidelines for daily ingestion.

Client Responsibility: It is the client’s responsibility to notify Sarah with Somatic Birthwork as soon after the birth as possible to make arrangements for pick up, drop off.  Failure to do so may result in delayed placenta preparation and encapsulation and may cause decreased potency of nutrients, hormones, and other beneficial attributes of the placenta, and even spoilage of the placenta which would render it unsuitable for encapsulation.

It is the client’s responsibility to discuss release of the placenta from the place of birth and to ensure proper storage of the placenta in a refrigerator or cooler with the placenta placed on ice until it can be picked up or delivered for preparation and encapsulation. Please contact Sarah with Somatic Birthwork, if you need assistance with this.

Whether birthing at home, at a birth center, or in a hospital, please ensure that the placenta is kept fresh.  It can remain at room temperature for 3-4 hours following the birth.  After that (or sooner if possible) it should be refrigerated (40 degrees of below).  If some form of delayed cord cutting or lotus birth is being practiced, ice packs may be wrapped up with the placenta to prevent spoilage.  If it is going to be more than 3 or 4 days before the placenta can be prepared, it should be frozen. Prepare the placenta for transport by placing it in two large, freezer strength zippered plastic bags or in a large plastic yogurt or ice cream container, then into a cooler with ice packs or into a refrigerator.

Sarah with Somatic Birthwork is not responsible for any adverse reactions to your placenta capsules.  Please inform Sarah with Somatic Birthwork of any allergies prior to the encapsulation process.

When the encapsulation process takes place in your home, the placenta will be left to dehydrate for several hours.  You may choose to leave it unattended, but Sarah with Somatic Birthwork is not responsible for any fire or damages that may occur.

Encapsulator Responsibility: Sarah with Somatic Birthwork will use proper food handling techniques and perform the encapsulation in a clean environment using tools and equipment that have been cleaned and sterilized before and after each use.

Sarah with Somatic Birthwork certified with BEST Doula in Placenta processing and in Bloodborne Pathogens & Infection Control Standards as well as holds a current City of Austin Food Handler Permit.

Refunds: Current refund policy can be found here. If the contract is terminated after releasing the placenta to the Sarah with Somatic Birthwork but before any preparation have begun, it will be returned for disposal.

There will be no refund and payment will be due in full once preparation has begun.
